The front or east block has the public functions such as the entry lobby, drawing room, dinning, and bar all of which face the large front lawn as well as the relatively intimate courtyard. The rear block has a large double height family living room which opens out to the courtyard and the pool deck and two bedrooms facing the rear lawn. The upper level has four bedroom, puja room, and a lounge area for the family to gather. The gym and sauna pavilion sits just across the swimming pool, along the Northern face of the property, and squares-off the sense of enclosure around the courtyard.
On the ground floor, the villa is shaped, with two wings. There are three separate storey volumes on top of main ground volume, two of which are perpendicular to it, and the third is situated at the intersection of wings (with a bit of translation). Storey volumes emphasize and cover entrances and, functionally, gather similar content. Basement, which extends under the fragment of the ground floor, contains the engine room and technology of the pool. The southwestern wing of the ground floor contains service facilities, pool area, locker rooms and entrance for guests and external visitors. The southeastern wing contains the owners’ living quarters that may be, optionally, separated or integrated through large sliding doors. The southern storey volume is a guest unit with two bedrooms and a suite. The northern storey volume is recreational, with fitness, sauna and relaxation area and the eastern storey volume is the family’s sleeping tract.
As anyone familiar with SEE Materials knows, Shelly’s design aesthetic is alluring and moving. Consider the dining room table and living room seating group, areas which are illuminated by custom designed glass tube chandeliers, or the custom leather wall commanding attention in the family room. Sharing the lower level is a theater room, climate-controlled wine room, two additional bedroom suites, and a game area that features a window looking into the pool above. Whether sipping wine at the tasting bar or upstairs soaking up the view from the 2,200-square foot master suite, one’s experience remains awe-inspiring.
