With its wide walls of glass and a ribbon-like white façade that winds its way around the building, this home on the banks of Lake Zurich is so light and mobile in appearance that it resembles a futuristic vessel that has sailed in from the lake and found itself a natural place to dock.
The prominent internal/ external relations in the design is expressed by pulling the roof beyond the structure’s contour, creating shade in the external sitting area. An analysis of the sun’s rays during the day determined the angles of the round light openings in the concrete ceiling, that serves as a built pergola. Each one of the openings is in a different angle, in order to maximize the shading in the sitting area.
The most important spatial interest of the complex is the heterogeneous, ambiguous and membranous space that appears between the two houses. The scenic load of this space is achieved through the exposure of domestic life circulating between floors.
