The solid cherry wall and two story high bookcase and the delicate staircase enclosing these private functions, are punctured by high windows and pre-existing skylights, allowing light to penetrate while preserving a sense of serene calmness.
The design of the loft explores the modernist use of plane/volume and opaque/transparent, with the interplay of different materials. The strategy adopted, is that of a contemporary architectural intervention within an pre-existing envelope.
The interiors of the glitzy penthouse of 101 Warren are the work of Architectural Digest-celebrated designer Richard Mishaan, who gave the apartment its high-shine lime green kitchen, chain mosaic tile motif in the master bathroom, and other over-the-top finishes
This five-floor residence is constructed within the fixed footprint of an existing three-story townhouse on a typically narrow infill Manhattan plot, sharing party walls with the adjacent houses. The clients asked for loft-like spaces, open and filled with light but also private – exactly the opposite of a standard NYC row house, with its street-side windows usually curtained or shuttered from the eyes of passers-by.
Internal finishes include a fully imported German kitchen, large format granite floor and wall slabs which are used throughout, frameless glazed balustrades and floor-to-ceiling glazing, as well as various aluminium louvre devices
