Our customer likes to spend the evening with large companies and very much to all of this was taken into account. Just needed a Bio-fireplace, large screen TV and a large kitchen. The decision came at once – we did not share, and made false volume and partially suspended in the air. All functionality we placed in the hall. High contrast supported the dynamics of the central structure, which combines several tasks. The main emphasis was made by a central fireplace with a suspended work island, a fridge and two TVs. Space fat to work for itself. You can completely bypass around the central shape, and thus views.
Although designed for the interior, the exterior of the front façade also engages the street. During the day the aluminum rain screen, with its water-cut brick-shaped openings echoing the solid bricks of its neighbors, appears as a flat, patterned mass, marked off from the adjacent houses by the tall glass slots on either side.
The design of the loft explores the modernist use of plane/volume and opaque/transparent, with the interplay of different materials. The strategy adopted, is that of a contemporary architectural intervention within an pre-existing envelope.
Movements, spaces and volumes occur to fulfill various functional requirements through the architectural manipulation of materials, details and finishes. Two equal halves performing public and private functions are employed throughout horizontally and vertically.
An indirect linear light covers the vertical surfaces, highlighting the qualities of the materials, and it is combined with spotlights that emphasise some particular elements. A backlit background with an image of a forest in autumn surrounds the set and provides a natural context for the dwelling
