If you were here this morning, I’d make a special coffee cake or muffins and a fresh pot of coffee. I’d ask how you were and tell you how much I’ve missed our chats and how good it feels to be back.
But it felt good to be gone too.
It’s easy to forget the need to step aside every once in awhile.
To spend more time in the Word than the Internet. More time with my Mr. instead of my computer. Read more books, laugh more, relax more, be more intentional.
I was reminded that I’ve never seen an empty jug fill anything.
You have to be filled before you can ever hope to fill others.
It’s easy to get so wrapped up in serving and ministering others that we forget we need it ourselves too. But when we get so weary and beaten down God gave us the prescription He knew our souls would long for in Matthew 11:28, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Yes. Come to Him. In coming to Him, sometimes we have to leave something else, even if just for a time.
So I’m eager to come back, eager to spill out what I’ve been refreshed and re-filled by, eager to be used by the same God who gave me the rest I needed.
